Initially, there were several designs contemplated and then it was decided to use a simple but revolutionary concept. Then it became a temporary college building which was later on renovated to be converted into an open theatre where in profits were found to be substantial. It was realized that there is a demand and audience for such shows and then a decision was taken to build an open theatre. It is extremely essential that there is focus on delivering higher levels of understanding of culture and other details, which can help focus on understanding how and why the structure was formed as well as its importance in the history of a state. It becomes important to deliver higher level of understanding of the purpose of the structure in order to justify its design and construction. The purpose of this structure was to promote theatre and also help build effective levels of cultural promotion. All of this required the formation of a building or structure that was big enough to house the different plays and their audiences (Cole, Suzanne P.; Engle, Tim; Winkler, Eric, 2012). It is extremely important for the understanding of details of a structure that is built from a cultural perspective as this can help form a stronger understanding of the values and lifestyle as well as origin of people of a place. This is of great importance from the point of view of the history of a place.
The conducting of plays does indicate that the place has a rich culture and historical background. It has diverse set of people and focus on enriching its culture further. These elements lead to formation of a strong value and emotions. It is important that there is effective usage of an understanding that the architecture as greatly influenced by the American and European culture and architecture. These influences are evident in the structures which were built during the same time that the Starlight Theatre was built (Cole, Suzanne P.; Engle, Tim; Winkler, Eric, 2012). The modernity of the construction, the usage of an expanded seating arrangement, on site room facility and other elements help build an appropriate structure for carrying out theatre and other events in modern times. It is essential to focus on ensuring that the mechanisms of the structure are maintained and so the kinetic architecture has an important role to play in helping build better relevance.
Design and architecture
The design and architecture of Rock Valley College began and the Bengt Sjostrom Starlight Theatre was remodeled in 2001 and is designed to be an open air theatre. The first phase of renovations included the ticket booths, increased seating capacity and on-site room facilities. The second phase of the renovations is focused on the formation of a 150 feet stage which forms an important attraction. The operable roof is the most important feature of this theater and it does form an extremely important tourist attraction as well.
The faceted roof consists of six triangular, stainless-steel-clad panels and forms a star shaped opening which forms an important element of each performance. It is an essential covering used during rain and bad weather as well alongside using it as an attraction prior to beginning of every performance. It helps develop an essential celestial drama which has been created using an inexpensive but revolutionary technology. It forms an important aspect of the architecture and structure at Starlight Theater in Illinois, USA.
