First modernism entered Australia in the middle of 1910 through the medium of migrants, expatriates, exhibitions and publications. This movement was spread across 5 decades filled with turbulence inclusive of globalization wars, depression of economies, advancement of technology and massive changes in the society. Inspiration was gained by avant-gardes from early Europeans, the movement of modernism further influenced various art based forms and commercial activities. The expression of modernism was different in Australia in every form that it inculcated itself with general thread of traditional representation rejected. The mere focus however was over form on content and styling over the matter of subject (Mumford 1954). The approach of modernism was allowed especially through science and technology. Architecture was not aloof and European avant-gardes led towards development of expressionism in architecture. This essay thesis statement lies in acknowledging the Australian architecture history from the works of Robin Boyd, the Griffins and Edmond and Corrigan. The scope of this essay also lies in acknowledging the difference between each of their work in order to explore the difference and unique value that they have added to the architectural history of Australia.
