We can see that the information flows from the customers to the retailers and then to the distributers. This is the information that how much sales are happening and how much should be the minimum quantity that must be present at any time with the retainers and distributers to meet the demand of the customers (Bowersox, 2002). The information which flow between the manufacturer and the distributer consists of the Purchase order details; involve details, receiving acknowledgements, fund transfer details, etc. The information will also flow between the manufacturer and the point of sale as well between the point of sale and the distributer (Thomas, 1996). The company Colgate Palmolive is making use of SAP R/3 to transfer these details to the different agents in the supply chain management process. The information about the usage of the products and the trend of the demand flows from the distributors to the manufacturers and to the suppliers and accordingly the manufacturing unit decides how much to produce at a particular moment and which product to produce more and which to produce less.
