Gold Nano particles technology is the use of gold in its colloidal to treat the cancer. This has shown potential. In this process, the tumor is first targeted and the Nano particles are delivered to the tumor site.
1. Tumor targeting delivery has become easier owing to the fact that these colloidal particles pass through the barriers and increase the specificity of the treatments. The tumor is distributed as ligands and its ability to show potential in the treatment of the tumor.
By the use of specific engineering materials, there are also the antibody gold conjugates with different functional groups that are proven to treat many kinds of tumor and other health conditions.
2. The gold Nano particles however has not been utilized completely owing to the issue of cytotoxicity. Cytotoxicity is the quality of the Nano particles to become extremely toxic to the host cells. This cytotoxicity impedes the progress made by the Nano particles in addressing the tumor in the body. Cytotoxicity issues cause the Nano particles to be more damaging to the normal host cells and thus prevents the potential benefits of the targeted drug delivery. This cytotoxicity issues have caused a general public apprehension towards the development of Nano medicine and targeted drug delivery.
Currently, there are numerous studies that have been undertaken to prevent the potential toxicity of these Nano materials.
