With regards to this particular movie, it can be said that women are found to be quite independent and strong but the critical issue is that they never challenge the power structure of the current gender. Several examples could be associated with this. Firstly, the character of Carrie is found to be a writer since she has a decent career that makes a provision of a better economic status without her getting into a marriage status. Still she got married to Big, and that she desired for a big wedding whereas he was not willing to do so. And, this is the reason that the wedding was not that much popularistic. It was a small wedding in the City Hall (Parlee, 2011). One thing is also evident regarding the gender representation in this film that when Carrie kissed her former boyfriend then Big reminder her of their wedding by giving a diamond ring. Carrie is independent and strong but she is in the same period of time relied on a man. There are numerous scenes within the movie which demonstrates she is highly submissive towards him. More than this, he didn’t expose a memorable wedding and that she left Big because she felt humiliated as she considered it her fault that she did not want to do the wedding he actually desired. This provides a fact that if a women is independent and strong, it is definitely acceptable (Dexter, 2012). Moreover, one should know that women should respect the needs of a man and thoughts before her own.
