‘Sexual Harassment’ lecture slides present the notion that we are “learning how to operate with the world of image”. I believe these are very powerful words for understanding why sexual harassment might still be present in the workplace. Women might be simply taught to tactfully avoid such situations or to report them in the workplace, but might not be empowered to a point where they no longer have to be worry about such a situation happening to them in the workplace. In order for such empowerment to happen it is necessary for both genders to be trained. Everybody has to be taught from their schooling that sexual harassment is a crime. Sexual harassment is not restricted to the female gender as it can also happen to the male gender. So protection against sexual harassment must be taught as an individual right. It should not be advocated for as a defence for one of the genders. A false image is often created. Women must be taught to defend themselves, but when teaching about sexual harassment, both the genders must be involved. Teaching it to only one gender makes it a gender specific thing.
