The process of drawing comic strips also offered viable insights into the intricacies of the subject of heroism. As the sketches started to become more profound and comprehensive, the storyboard appeared complete and depicted the observations of research on heroism. The broader scope of the research presented some challenges such as formulation of creative backgrounds for common people. The scope for creativity is limited by the selected approach. The major challenge encountered by me is dependence on academic sources rather than interaction with people and their experiences related to heroism.
This challenge was addressed by me with the help of a few interview sessions with family and friends to acquire their views and experiences of heroism. Furthermore, the cultural barrier also plays the part of a huge roadblock in the research process. The role and definitions of heroes are different in different cultures and religious sects. Hence the observations for heroism become limited to the academic sources of information on heroism. I was able to address this issue by incorporating the practice of including people from different cultural backgrounds in the comic strips.
The alternate method which could have been implemented during the research process is consideration of real life examples of heroism in relation to superheroes which are popular in movies and comic literature (Schillinger & Ruess, 2015). A few examples of political figures, military leaders, whistleblowers or Samaritans as superheroes like Superman or Batman would have provided a more interactive approach to the contextual analysis. During the course of the research, I was able to put light on my abilities and flaws while doing the dissertation. I found that I am a creative thinker and this facet helped me in etching out perfect stories of common individuals serving the roles of heroes. My flaws were prominent in the designing process where I had to face trivial setbacks in operating the SAI software for image editing.
The learning process clarified my stance on heroism. I understood the fact that a hero is not bound by the limitations of social scrutiny, ill will, personal risk and specific situations. The issues discussed in the analysis provide a blatant explanation of the existing theoretical issues. Theoretically, heroism is subject to the effect of different interrelated paradoxes such as altruism. These issues have been addressed in the analysis with precise case study explanations.
