The historical and philosophical placement of Adorno has argued against the essay of Benjamin, “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction”. This argument had been placed alongside with the theory of culture industry making it the very first perspicuous view in the Dialectic of Enlightenment stated by Adorno and Horkheimer (Witkin, 2003). This specific piece of work had contributed in charting enlightenment as a significant form of self-destruction. The centralized claim is that the basic similar rationality contributes in providing the emancipation of human kind from the bond related to mythic powers. This allows in making progressive domination over engenders, nature, by the intrinsic feature, returning to the myth, along with the absolute creations of domination (Durham, 2003). The character of the enlightened cause holds the accountability for this reverse nature in identifying the understanding and rationality along with the subsumption of the specific within the universal. Instrumental or subsumptive rationality focuses on disregarding the intrinsic characteristics of things. These are the properties that help in giving each elements its particular historical, social, and sensuous context, for the sake of the purposes and goals related to the subject, basically that is itself focused on self- preservation (Adorno, 1975). Thus, this types of a rationality must be treating unequal or unlike elements as equal or like and subsume objects within the subjects. Then, subsumption is dominating the realm of concept.
