The story of success of Murdoch is filled with various tales of falling and again rising to strike back. He has survived various commercial as well as personal crises, but each time emerged as a resilient fighter. Along with keen business sense, hard work and clarity of vision, being resilient is one of the best attributes of Murdoch, which helped him to become an inspirational and successful leader in the world of business (Amernic and Craig, 2012).
The comparison of Sir Robert Menzies and Rupert Murdoch
The empires set by these great leaders are built up on the strong foundations of attributes they have. While Menzies is considered as revolutionary leader of the Australian politics, Murdoch is epitome of success in the business world. Robert Menzies personified the sense of safety and hopefulness which formed the hallmark of his tenure as the Australian prime minister. He had farsightedness to see the consequences of his decisions, which though immediately received criticism from his oppositions. For example, the initiatives he took for establishing the relationships of Australia with Singapore and Malaysia or the modern associations with the countries of Asia, are proving to be fruitful for the country even today (National museum of Australia, 2016). Even though, these actions of Menzies received immediate criticism, as a strong leader, he has clarity of vision and intellect to stand unwavering with his decisions. The era of Menzies could also be said to be great time for the economic growth of Australia. The reliable growth, reduced joblessness, increasing public ownership in the housing, rise of affluent middle class and the democratic gratification of the results of country’s economic accomplishments marked the period of Menzies’ time as the country’s Prime Minister. His principles and believes have often made him to be referred as a “conviction politician”, who is not motivated exclusively by the considerations of public relations, attention groups and general practise of being diplomatically correct in the eyes of everyone. Instead he was a man with strong principles and views. He was never scared of being expressive, even if it meant incurring negative criticism. However, he was not very keen in making his goals and motives clear to the people and hence often gained unpopularity. As a leader it could be said that he lacked the attitude of keeping his followers involved and being approachable. Nevertheless, the greatness of his decision and implications were far reaching and would have been difficult for everyone to understand them at that time. He would always be remembered for being the aggressive achiever, great speaker and visionary, who had vision for the nation and whose decisions still benefit the global position of Australia (Howard, 2014).
