Prior to reading this article, it was assumed that the classroom discussion would be about the peer groups and slang discussion. It was also assumed that the tutor would discuss about the responsibility in teenagers and ways to make them study. However, this article tries to explore about the normative social expectations and this in itself was surprising. Empathy towards this life stage has been explained by Eckert (2004). There is explanation of how this life stage is merely a reciprocal reaction to the normative social ideologies and the ideas of raging hormones. Adolescence is a life stage that is different and nuanced based on the individual perception and the individual influential factors.From a personal standpoint, during the teenage years there were a lot of advices from the adults regarding social responsibilities and family expectations. Discussion about individual freedom was often misjudged to be towards doing something irresponsible. This article genuinely tries to explain about the social construction and how to develop language. The final thoughts of the author seemed agreeable as it brings to light that not all people are the same and how they are often taken lightly by adults across the cultures.
