首先必須理解全球認同或文化認同的含義。在一個全球化的國家，每個人都是自由世界的公民。在這個全球化社會的世界裏，每個公民都有自己的身份。這種個體身份就是他們是誰，他們代表什麼，他們的個性，他們的特徵等等(Williams, 2007)。他們可以被定義爲，例如，10歲的Rob，他渴望成爲一名飛行員，他是一個自我激勵的人等等。同樣地，他們也會有一個社區身份，即他們在社區中是如何被看待的。他們將擁有基於其國籍的國家身份。他們也會有文化認同感。個人將具有全球身份，表明世界公民屬於這樣一個國家和這樣一種文化。因此，這種全球認同將他們確定爲一個特定的國家或地方或文化(Hall, 1991)。

The concept of globalization is more of a blanket term for many things. Globalization represents a sharing of world views, products and process exchanges and more. Many aspects of culture are shared. Many theoretical definitions present a one-sided view. Globalization is presented as a set of competencies which helps companies in meeting differentiated consumer demand. However, the essence of globalization is much more than this. It is not only just about selling and making products in different countries, but also about sharing of cultures, ideas and more. Globalization still remains a strong and solid techno-economic phenomenon of current times, where it adapted from food industries, supermarkets, restaurants, books and more. With sharing of cultures, is it possible for an individual to lose their cultural identity? Can different cultures still exist with the advent of globalization? The essay argues that culture would be shared because of globalization, but global identities would not get distorted. Global identities are created as a multifaceted entity, and hence they would not be destroyed.

It is first necessary to understand what global identity or cultural identity means. In a global state, everybody is a citizen of the free world. In this world of global community, every citizen will have an individual identity. This individual identity is that of who they are, what they represent, their personality, their characteristics etc (Williams, 2007). They could be defined as for instance, Rob, who is 10 years old, who aspires to be a pilot, who is self-motivated etc. Similarly, they would have a community identity as to how they are viewed in the community. They will have a national identity based on their country of citizenship. They would also have a cultural identity. The individual would have a global identity indicating that the citizens of the world belong to such a state and such a culture. This global identity hence identifies them as being of a particular nation or a place or a culture (Hall, 1991).
